Apoorva Gupta

Psychotherapist

  • Referred by a therapist

Hi, I'm Apoorva! My journey into psychotherapy began with a love for stories, the ones we tell ourselves, the ones we inherit, and the ones we long to rewrite. Narrative therapy first showed me how powerful it can be to separate the person from the problem, and that insight has stayed with me in every room I enter. Over time, my practice has grown to include Transactional Analysis, somatic work, trauma-focused approaches, and solution-focused methods, helping me meet clients in many different ways.

As a therapist, I see myself as both a companion and a collaborator. Some clients come to me seeking immediate relief, others come to explore deeper patterns that keep surfacing in their lives. I bring steadiness, empathy, and curiosity into sessions, inviting reflection while also offering gentle challenges when needed. My aim is not to push you toward quick fixes, but to help you feel safe enough to notice, reflect, and choose the directions that feel right for you.

I often work with young adults and professionals navigating anxiety, boundaries, and identity, as well as individuals processing trauma, grief, or relationship concerns. What remains central is the therapeutic relationship itself, a space where you can feel supported, respected, and empowered to move toward the life you want with greater clarity and self-trust.

4500+ hours of work in therapy

I didn't stop learning after my masters, I have been continuously investing in practical case-based training, client work, and my own personal therapy.

We show therapy sessions so you can better understand a therapist's real-world experience.

Two therapists may both have five years in practice, yet one might have completed 500 sessions while another has completed 3,000. This depends on whether they practice part-time or full-time and how consistently they see clients. Session counts make that difference visible.

Just as you would not trust a surgeon who has only read about the human body but never operated, therapy cannot be mastered through textbooks alone. While many master's programs in India are heavily theory-driven, practical training develops the real skill of therapy - learning how to ask the right question, when to hold silence, when to challenge, and how to respond in complex emotional moments.

Therapists are human, and they carry their own histories. When a client's experiences resemble their own, old patterns can get activated.

For example, if a therapist grew up with a highly critical parent and a client shares a similar experience, that old pattern can get activated. They may unconsciously over-identify, rescue, or react instead of staying objective. Personal therapy helps therapists recognise their own triggers and patterns so they can respond thoughtfully and continue to hold a non-judgemental space. Nobody is born non judgemental, it takes a lot of personal work to get there.

What sessions with me feel like

In our sessions, I take time to hear your story and what brings you here. We may talk about your goals for therapy, but I see goals as directions rather than fixed checklists. Together, we decide on a pace that feels safe, whether that means staying with present concerns or gradually exploring deeper patterns from the past.

I balance validation with gentle challenge, offering empathy and steadiness at the start, and slowly bringing in deeper reflections when the trust feels strong. Sometimes I might suggest practices like journaling, grounding, or reflection between sessions, but always in collaboration with you. By the end of each session, I like to check in on what you’re taking away, so you leave with a sense of clarity or a small step forward.

Outside therapy

I find joy in curiosity, connection, and growth, both in everyday moments and in life’s bigger questions. Animals hold a special place in my life; their grounding presence offers quiet wisdom. I also love experimenting in the kitchen, getting lost in books and films, and traveling to new places. These simple joys, alongside my love for animals, remind me to embrace imperfection and stay open to life’s ongoing process of becoming.

What clients say

"I have been taking therapy from Apoorva for quite a few months now, and honestly she has helped me through so many things. For me, I wanted to talk to someone about my childhood and incidents that took place which make me what I am today, and Apoorva understands it beautifully. She makes your inner child feel safe and cared for. She hears you, validates your feelings, helps you understand what you are feeling, and grounds back to your present. I look forward to sessions with Apoorva, because talking with her gets me through my week."

Female, Late 20s, Bangalore

"I began therapy with Apoorva feeling socially anxious and uncomfortable, so I chose audio calls at first. Her gentle, skilled approach helped me gain insight and relief each session. With time, she encouraged me to switch on video, which built my confidence. Today, I feel far more comfortable with myself and carry forward the insights and skills I’ve gained on this journey with her."

What languages do you offer sessions in?

I offer sessions in English and Hindi.

What type of people may not be the right fit for you?

I may not be the right fit if you are primarily seeking support for active suicidality, borderline personality disorder, or psychosis.

Do you have experience working with clients outside India? Which countries?

Yes. I have worked with clients across multiple countries through online therapy, including the US, UK, UAE, Canada, Australia, and other global locations.

Are your sessions more structured or exploratory?

My sessions are collaborative and exploratory, with gentle structure when needed to support clarity, grounding, and steady progress.

Will I get exercises or reflection work between sessions?

Sometimes. I may suggest grounding or reflection practices when they feel supportive, but there is no fixed or mandatory homework.

What if I disagree with you?

I genuinely welcome disagreement in our work together. If something I say doesn't sit right with you, I encourage you to share it openly. Therapy is a collaborative space, and your voice matters deeply here. Often, moments of disagreement lead to powerful insights, about patterns, boundaries, needs, or past experiences. Exploring these moments together can become an important part of your therapeutic growth and help us build a more honest, trusting relationship.

What if it doesn't feel like it's working after a few sessions?

Let's talk about it openly. Therapy is a collaborative process, and it's important that you feel safe sharing if something doesn't feel right. Sometimes, naming what isn't working can lead to meaningful shifts in the work itself. You are always free to pause, take a break, or explore a different therapist if that feels better for you. We can have that conversation together first, or you can also reach out to the Mindbun team for support in finding a better fit. Your comfort and growth matter more than pushing through something silently.
