Bilal Abdu
Psychotherapist
Hi, I’m Bilal. My journey into therapy began with a personal need to understand myself better, to make sense of inner conflicts, patterns, and the ways we relate to others. During my early training and personal therapy, I began to notice how much of our suffering comes from unexamined beliefs, unmet needs, and ways of coping that once helped us but no longer serve us. That curiosity gradually turned into a commitment to walk alongside others as they explore these patterns for themselves.
My work is grounded in Transactional Analysis, with a strong emphasis on emotional safety and trust. In sessions, I pay attention not just to what is being said, but also to how emotions show up in the body, through posture, breath, restlessness, or withdrawal. Bringing awareness to both mind and body helps insight and embodiment come together, allowing clients to connect with themselves more fully. I see therapy as a space to understand patterns, needs, and inner scripts, and as a process of reconnecting with one’s more authentic self.
My style is semi-structured and responsive to the client’s needs. Some clients benefit from clarity and direction, while others need time and space to build trust at their own pace. I often work with young adults and professionals navigating perfectionism, relationship difficulties, burnout, and self-doubt.
At the heart of my work is a belief that awareness creates choice. Through a balance of warmth, reflection, and gentle challenge, I aim to help clients make sense of long-standing patterns and reconnect with a steadier, more grounded sense of self, without feeling rushed or judged.
1500+ hours of work in therapy
I didn't stop learning after my masters, I have been continuously investing in practical case-based training, client work, and my own personal therapy.
We show therapy sessions so you can better understand a therapist's real-world experience.
Two therapists may both have five years in practice, yet one might have completed 500 sessions while another has completed 3,000. This depends on whether they practice part-time or full-time and how consistently they see clients. Session counts make that difference visible.
Just as you would not trust a surgeon who has only read about the human body but never operated, therapy cannot be mastered through textbooks alone. While many master's programs in India are heavily theory-driven, practical training develops the real skill of therapy - learning how to ask the right question, when to hold silence, when to challenge, and how to respond in complex emotional moments.
Therapists are human, and they carry their own histories. When a client's experiences resemble their own, old patterns can get activated.
For example, if a therapist grew up with a highly critical parent and a client shares a similar experience, that old pattern can get activated. They may unconsciously over-identify, rescue, or react instead of staying objective. Personal therapy helps therapists recognise their own triggers and patterns so they can respond thoughtfully and continue to hold a non-judgemental space. Nobody is born non judgemental, it takes a lot of personal work to get there.

What sessions with me feel like
My sessions are shaped around you, where you are, what you bring, and what you need in that moment. Some people come to therapy wanting clarity and structure, others simply need a space to pause, reflect, and untangle what feels heavy. I hold both possibilities. There are sessions that have a clear direction, and others that flow organically, following what naturally emerges in our conversation.
I like to begin by understanding what feels most present for you, the emotions, thoughts, or patterns that may be showing up in your life. Together, we explore how these connect to your larger story, without rushing for quick fixes. At times, I bring in structure, tools, frameworks, or reflection exercises, to help you gain perspective. At other times, I stay with silence or emotion, letting things unfold at your pace.
The process is collaborative. My role is to create a space that feels steady and safe, while also inviting you to notice what lies beneath the surface. Over time, sessions often become a rhythm, a space where you can think, feel, and come back to yourself with more awareness and ease.

I primarily work with Transactional Analysis (TA), focusing on understanding recurring emotional and relational patterns to build awareness and choice.
What languages do you offer sessions in?
I offer sessions in English and Malayalam.
What type of people may not be the right fit for you?
I may not be the right fit if you are primarily seeking support for psychosis, neurodivergence, or active addiction.
Do you have experience working with clients outside India? Which countries?
Yes. I have worked with clients across multiple countries through online therapy, including the USA, Sweden, and Canada.
Are your sessions more structured or exploratory?
My sessions are semi-structured. Some have clear direction and tools, while others are more exploratory, depending on what you need.
Will I get exercises or reflection work between sessions?
At times, yes. I may suggest reflection exercises or structured tools when helpful, but only if they support your process.
What if I disagree with you?
I genuinely welcome disagreement in our work together. If something I say doesn't sit right with you, I encourage you to share it openly. Therapy is a collaborative space, and your voice matters deeply here. Often, moments of disagreement lead to powerful insights, about patterns, boundaries, needs, or past experiences. Exploring these moments together can become an important part of your therapeutic growth and help us build a more honest, trusting relationship.
What if it doesn't feel like it's working after a few sessions?
Let's talk about it openly. Therapy is a collaborative process, and it's important that you feel safe sharing if something doesn't feel right. Sometimes, naming what isn't working can lead to meaningful shifts in the work itself. You are always free to pause, take a break, or explore a different therapist if that feels better for you. We can have that conversation together first, or you can also reach out to the Mindbun team for support in finding a better fit. Your comfort and growth matter more than pushing through something silently.
