Deepa Kumar
Psychotherapist & Somatic Practitioner
- Referred by a therapist
Hi, I'm Deepa. My approach brings together the body and the mind. I work at the intersection of talk therapy and somatic work, helping you not just understand what you’re going through, but also feel it, process it, and slowly move through it in a way that’s grounded in your body.
I’ve spent the last six years in deep professional training, four years in Transactional Analysis and ongoing training in the Somatic Experiencing Professional Program with internationally accredited organizations. This combination allows me to work with both stories and sensations, patterns and nervous system responses. For many of my clients, that opens up a deeper kind of shift, not just intellectual clarity, but real, embodied change.
I’ve been fortunate to work with clients across multiple continents and a wide range of life experiences and psychological concerns. With some minor exceptions like alcohol addiction, I’m comfortable working with most issues that people bring into therapy. My presence in the room is calm, attuned, intuitive, empathetic and full of compassion. I am creative and holistic in my approach to and I’ll always check in with what feels okay for you. You don’t have to have the words ready, I’ll meet you wherever you are. If you’re looking for a therapist who can help you tune into what your mind and body are both trying to say, I’d be glad to work with you.
1180+ hours of work in therapy
I didn't stop learning after my masters, I have been continuously investing in practical case-based training, client work, and my own personal therapy.
We show therapy sessions so you can better understand a therapist's real-world experience.
Two therapists may both have five years in practice, yet one might have completed 500 sessions while another has completed 3,000. This depends on whether they practice part-time or full-time and how consistently they see clients. Session counts make that difference visible.
Just as you would not trust a surgeon who has only read about the human body but never operated, therapy cannot be mastered through textbooks alone. While many master's programs in India are heavily theory-driven, practical training develops the real skill of therapy - learning how to ask the right question, when to hold silence, when to challenge, and how to respond in complex emotional moments.
Therapists are human, and they carry their own histories. When a client's experiences resemble their own, old patterns can get activated.
For example, if a therapist grew up with a highly critical parent and a client shares a similar experience, that old pattern can get activated. They may unconsciously over-identify, rescue, or react instead of staying objective. Personal therapy helps therapists recognise their own triggers and patterns so they can respond thoughtfully and continue to hold a non-judgemental space. Nobody is born non judgemental, it takes a lot of personal work to get there.

✨ Deepa has spent six years in rigorous, ongoing training across two demanding disciplines, depth-oriented psychotherapy and body-based trauma work, both through internationally accredited organisations. Very few therapists invest this deeply in both, and that combination is what allows her to work with you at every layer, not just what you think and feel, but what your body is holding too.
I’ve been privileged to work with clients ranging from corporate professionals and young adults, to people navigating grief, anxiety, relationship challenges, and midlife or existential crises, covering a wide variety of issues.
You are in the right place if you are not primarily seeking relief from severe alcohol addiction, or psychosis.

Approaches I Use
- Transactional Analysis (TA)
- Somatic Experiencing (SE)
- Psychodrama
- Existential Therapy
- Redecision Therapy
✨ Deepa works at the intersection of mind, body, and lived experience. She helps you make sense of what you've been through, release what the body has been quietly holding, and explore the different parts of yourself that have shaped how you show up today. This combination is especially powerful for people carrying trauma and dealing with experiences that words alone haven't been able to touch.
What sessions with me feel like
In my sessions, I weave together talk therapy and somatic work. This means you’ll have the space to share your story while also learning to listen to the signals of your body. Some days may feel more conversational, other times I may invite a grounding or boundary-building somatic exercise.
I pay close attention to pacing, ensuring we don’t go “too deep too fast,” and always close sessions in a way that helps you feel safe and steady to return to daily life. Clients often leave with a sense of both clarity and calm, carrying small practices or reflections into the week.

Outside therapy
I’m an artist at heart. I love crochet, drawing, painting, and music, especially singing, which has become a mindful practice rather than a performance. I feel most grounded when connecting with the earth: walking barefoot, soaking up the sun, or sitting on the floor with ease. These practices remind me that the body carries wisdom of its own, and much like therapy, it knows how to find its way back to balance.

What clients say
"I have been in therapy with Deepa for over 3 months now, and it has been an extremely rewarding experience. Her gentle, kind, and safe methods instantly felt like I was speaking to a long-time friend. She created a completely non-judgmental, collaborative space that made it easy for me to open up. She helped me out of a very dark place and onto a path of self-discovery I never expected to enjoy."
Female, 42, Banglore, Freelance Consultant
"Working with Deepa has been transformative. I value how Deepa is able to connect the dots between my emotional patterns and the real-world. I've developed a much clearer relationship with my own triggers. I can sit with discomfort instead of immediately reacting. The work we've done on nervous system regulation has genuinely changed how I show up as a leader - I'm more grounded, more decisive, and far less likely to waver on decisions that matter. Highly recommend. Thanks to Mindbun for helping me connect with Deepa and providing a seamless experience to conduct my sessions periodically."
Male, Early 30s, Bangalore, Founder
"As someone initially resistant to therapy, I am grateful to have met Deepa, who changed my entire approach to wellness. Her focus on the mind–body connection brought a deep, lasting shift. What stood out was her open-minded approach to life and rationality, which made our sessions feel expansive and energizing, more like deep conversations with an old friend than therapy."

"I reached out to Deepa when I was struggling with rejection from my partner and family, and my anger felt overwhelming. I was even suicidal, thinking I had lost everything. Deepa created a space where I felt comfortable opening up online. Her words and support are helping me manage my anger and find my way forward. She continues to guide me with compassion in this journey."

Frequently Asked Questions
What approaches do you work with?
I primarily work with Transactional Analysis and Somatic Experiencing, while also integrating Psychodrama, Existential Therapy, and Redecision Therapy. This allows me to combine reflective conversation with body-based awareness to support both emotional insight and nervous system regulation.
What languages do you offer sessions in?
I offer sessions in English, Tamil, and Kannada. I also understand Hindi.
What type of people may not be the right fit for you?
I may not be the right fit if you are primarily seeking support for severe alcohol addiction or psychosis, as these concerns often require more specialised care.
Do you have experience working with clients outside India? Which countries?
Yes. I have worked with clients internationally through online therapy, including individuals from the USA and the UK, in addition to India.
Are your sessions more structured or exploratory?
My sessions are exploratory but gently guided. I balance open conversation with somatic awareness and pacing, so the process unfolds safely while still providing direction and grounding.
Will I get exercises or reflection work between sessions?
I may suggest grounding practices, body-awareness exercises, or small reflections between sessions when they feel supportive.
What if I disagree with you?
I genuinely welcome disagreement in our work together. If something I say doesn't sit right with you, I encourage you to share it openly. Therapy is a collaborative space, and your voice matters deeply here. Often, moments of disagreement lead to powerful insights, about patterns, boundaries, needs, or past experiences. Exploring these moments together can become an important part of your therapeutic growth and help us build a more honest, trusting relationship.
What if it doesn't feel like it's working after a few sessions?
Let's talk about it openly. Therapy is a collaborative process, and it's important that you feel safe sharing if something doesn't feel right. Sometimes, naming what isn't working can lead to meaningful shifts in the work itself. You are always free to pause, take a break, or explore a different therapist if that feels better for you. We can have that conversation together first, or you can also reach out to the Mindbun team for support in finding a better fit. Your comfort and growth matter more than pushing through something silently.
