Krithika Akkaraju - Psychotherapist

Krithika Akkaraju

Psychotherapist

  • Referred by a therapist

Hi, I'm Krithika! I am a trauma-informed psychotherapist with a deeply humanistic and integrative approach to therapy. My journey into this work has been shaped by a long-standing curiosity about people, relationships, and the ways our inner worlds are influenced by both personal history and the systems we grow up in. Over the years, I have trained extensively across multiple therapeutic frameworks, allowing me to work with depth, flexibility, and sensitivity.

My work is grounded in person-centred therapy, where empathy, authenticity, and safety form the foundation of the therapeutic relationship. I integrate Gestalt therapy to support present-moment awareness, Transactional Analysis to explore relational and communication patterns, NLP to help reframe limiting beliefs, and somatic approaches to gently process experiences held in the body. I also draw from systemic family constellations to understand intergenerational dynamics and unspoken loyalties that shape our lives.

A significant part of my work has been with NRIs and clients living across different continents. I have a deep appreciation for the cultural complexity they navigate, carrying values, identities, and expectations from home while adapting to life in a new country. Therapy often becomes a space to make sense of belonging, loss, transition, and identity, and I work with care and cultural sensitivity to support this process.

I work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, trauma, stress, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm. I welcome whatever you bring into the therapy room. My intention is to offer a space that feels affirming, creative, and grounded, where exploration happens at your pace, and change feels both meaningful and sustainable.

11200+ hours of work in therapy

I have been continuously investing in practical case-based training, client work, and my own personal therapy.

We show therapy sessions so you can better understand a therapist's real-world experience.

Two therapists may both have five years in practice, yet one might have completed 500 sessions while another has completed 3,000. This depends on whether they practice part-time or full-time and how consistently they see clients. Session counts make that difference visible.

Just as you would not trust a surgeon who has only read about the human body but never operated, therapy cannot be mastered through textbooks alone. While many master's programs in India are heavily theory-driven, practical training develops the real skill of therapy - learning how to ask the right question, when to hold silence, when to challenge, and how to respond in complex emotional moments.

Therapists are human, and they carry their own histories. When a client's experiences resemble their own, old patterns can get activated.

For example, if a therapist grew up with a highly critical parent and a client shares a similar experience, that old pattern can get activated. They may unconsciously over-identify, rescue, or react instead of staying objective. Personal therapy helps therapists recognise their own triggers and patterns so they can respond thoughtfully and continue to hold a non-judgemental space. Nobody is born non judgemental, it takes a lot of personal work to get there.

What sessions with me feel like

My sessions are integrative and responsive, shaped by what you bring in and how you are arriving that day. We might begin with conversation understanding what feels alive, stuck, or overwhelming and gently move into deeper exploration using approaches like Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, somatic awareness, or experiential methods when words feel limiting.

At times, this could include body-based noticing, chair work, creative reflection, or simple experiments to help you access emotions, patterns, or parts of yourself more clearly. I don't push a fixed structure or agenda; instead, I stay attentive to your pace, readiness, and capacity in each moment. I usually close sessions by checking in on what you're taking away, an insight, a felt shift, or something to stay curious about. I may offer reflections to sit with between sessions, but I don't assign any work unless it genuinely feels supportive to you. The work is collaborative, contained, and grounded, with an emphasis on safety, clarity, and meaningful inner movement rather than quick fixes.

Outside therapy

I'm deeply curious about people and the many ways we make sense of ourselves. I love noticing patterns, asking thoughtful questions, and staying present with whatever shows up. I'm equally at home sitting quietly with emotions as I am exploring new perspectives and possibilities. Mindfulness, self-reflection, and creativity are part of how I live not just how I work. I believe growth happens best when we feel safe, seen, and free to be ourselves.

What clients say

"Little did I know when I started my sessions with Krithika, my whole life was about to change, and that is not an exaggeration. Her ability to make one feel at ease and provide a safe space to discuss your innermost thoughts and insecurities is truly remarkable since her practice relies on mindful therapy. Almost all of my sessions would include an activity which helps me understand things better. Especially considering I'm a visual learner, every session so far has been phenomenal healing for me. I couldn't have asked for a better therapist!"

Female, 31

"After many false starts with therapy, I am really glad I was able to try out a session with Krithika. Krithika is empathetic, kind, fun and rational, and talking to her has helped me make a positive shift towards how I should be caring for my emotional well-being. She is a patient listener who always takes time to explain things and has further equipped me with tools to deal with situations that have terrified me earlier, with ease. I look forward to our sessions as they always leave me confident to brave the week with a defined sense of purpose."

Male, 29

"Working with Krithika after a C-PTSD diagnosis has been deeply transformative. What she offered above all was safety, steady, non-judgmental, and grounding. She held space for my pace, my identity, and even medication needs, while supporting me through body-based work that helped release stored anger and pain. Her warmth, relatability, and attunement made healing feel human and possible. I'm deeply grateful for her presence."

Female, 36

"I didn't come to therapy willingly, but working with Krithika turned out to be one of the most valuable things I've done for myself. She met me exactly where I was, never forcing the past, and allowed me to move at my own pace. Her clarity, respect, and professionalism created a rare safe space where I could reflect honestly and arrive at my own insights. The impact on my relationship with myself and others has been profound."

Female, 56

I've been referred to Mindbun by therapist Chaitali Shetty and approved for practice by my trainer, Haseena Abdulla (TSTA), ITAA recognised TA trainer.

Therapists know what good therapy feels like. That's why this referral is stronger, and why you can trust it.

I work integratively, drawing from Transactional Analysis, Somatic Experiencing, Gestalt Therapy, NLP, Psychodrama, and trauma-focused approaches.

What languages do you offer sessions in?

I offer sessions in English, Telugu, and Hindi.

What type of people may not be the right fit for you?

I may not be the right fit if you are primarily seeking support for psychosis.

Do you have experience working with clients outside India? Which countries?

I have worked extensively with clients across the US, and Singapore.

Are your sessions more structured or exploratory?

My sessions are integrative and exploratory, with gentle structure only as and when required. I adapt to your pace while maintaining containment and therapeutic direction.

Will I get exercises or reflection work between sessions?

I may suggest reflections or experiential practices when supportive, but I do not assign mandatory homework unless it feels meaningful for you.

What if I disagree with you?

I genuinely welcome disagreement in our work together. If something I say doesn't sit right with you, I encourage you to share it openly. Therapy is a collaborative space, and your voice matters deeply here. Often, moments of disagreement lead to powerful insights, about patterns, boundaries, needs, or past experiences. Exploring these moments together can become an important part of your therapeutic growth and help us build a more honest, trusting relationship.

What if it doesn't feel like it's working after a few sessions?

Let's talk about it openly. Therapy is a collaborative process, and it's important that you feel safe sharing if something doesn't feel right. Sometimes, naming what isn't working can lead to meaningful shifts in the work itself. You are always free to pause, take a break, or explore a different therapist if that feels better for you. We can have that conversation together first, or you can also reach out to the Mindbun team for support in finding a better fit. Your comfort and growth matter more than pushing through something silently.
