Bhuvana Lan - Somatic Practitioner

Bhuvana Lan

Somatic Practitioner

  • Referred by a therapist

Hi! I'm Bhuvana. My work as a therapist is rooted in the body. Through my own lived experience in high-pressure corporate leadership roles, I came to understand how deeply stress, trauma, and unresolved experiences live not only in the mind, but in the nervous system and tissues of the body. For many years, I carried this weight myself before finding body-based therapeutic work, an experience that fundamentally changed how I understand healing and led me toward somatic psychotherapy.

I am trained across multiple somatic approaches through international organisations, including Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Bodynamics. I continue to stay deeply invested in advanced training and study as the field evolves. Alongside my clinical practice, I also teach and mentor emerging somatic practitioners in India, and have been involved in shaping how somatic psychotherapy is understood and practised in the country.

In sessions, the body is the primary guide. Rather than working mainly through conversation, I support clients in slowing down, noticing sensations, and understanding how their body responds to stress, threat, or safety.

Somatic therapy does not replace insight or meaning-making, but it addresses what words alone often cannot. By working directly with the body, clients often experience changes that feel deeper and more lasting. A core focus of my work is capacity building, helping clients gradually expand their ability to stay present with difficult sensations, emotions, and life experiences without becoming overwhelmed. Over time, this increased capacity supports greater resilience, steadiness, and flexibility in how clients meet both internal experiences and the challenges.

8800+ hours of work in therapy

I have been continuously investing in practical case-based training, client work, and my own personal therapy.

We show therapy sessions so you can better understand a therapist's real-world experience.

Two therapists may both have five years in practice, yet one might have completed 500 sessions while another has completed 3,000. This depends on whether they practice part-time or full-time and how consistently they see clients. Session counts make that difference visible.

Just as you would not trust a surgeon who has only read about the human body but never operated, therapy cannot be mastered through textbooks alone. While many master's programs in India are heavily theory-driven, practical training develops the real skill of therapy - learning how to ask the right question, when to hold silence, when to challenge, and how to respond in complex emotional moments.

Therapists are human, and they carry their own histories. When a client's experiences resemble their own, old patterns can get activated.

For example, if a therapist grew up with a highly critical parent and a client shares a similar experience, that old pattern can get activated. They may unconsciously over-identify, rescue, or react instead of staying objective. Personal therapy helps therapists recognise their own triggers and patterns so they can respond thoughtfully and continue to hold a non-judgemental space. Nobody is born non judgemental, it takes a lot of personal work to get there.

✨ Bhuvana’s training is deeply rooted in internationally renowned somatic institutes, including advanced learning from globally recognised bodies considered the gold standard in body-based trauma work. Her extensive international training reflects a rare and specialised foundation in working with the mind-body connection.

I’ve been privileged to work with clients ranging from professionals and leaders facing burnout, to individuals recovering from injury or trauma, to those navigating anxiety, insomnia, or chronic stress.

You are in the right place if you are not primarily seeking support for neurodivergence, or psychosis.

Approaches I Use

  • Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
  • Somatic Experiencing
  • Somatic Psychotherapy
  • Rebirthing breathwork
  • Family Constellation
  • Acupressure using magnets, seeds, colors
  • Ayurvedic acupressure
  • Sujok - traditional chinese medicine

✨ Bhuvana helps clients gently tune into bodily sensations where trauma, stress, and long-held emotional patterns are often stored. This approach is especially supportive for trauma, PTSD, and somatic symptoms, as it allows the nervous system to regulate safely, release stored tension, and build resilience in a gradual, lasting, and non-overwhelming way.

What sessions with me feel like

Sessions with me are gentle and unhurried. Unlike conventional talk therapy, you don’t need to have the “right words”, rather we begin by helping you slow down and notice what is happening in your body. You might become aware of sensations like warmth, tightness, or ease, and together we explore what your body is communicating.

In Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, I may use light, supportive touch to help your nervous system settle and release stress. At other times, I guide you through simple awareness or grounding practices. The process is always at your pace, and many clients describe leaving sessions feeling calmer, lighter, and more connected to themselves.

Over time, this work can bring shifts not just in symptoms like stress, migraines, or insomnia, but also in how you relate to yourself and the world, building resilience, clarity, and balance alongside any ongoing talk therapy.

Outside therapy

I find grounding in practices that keep me close to nature and the body. Movement, breathwork, and meditative practices help me stay centered, while time with family and community gives me joy and connection. These passions outside the therapy room nourish the depth and presence I bring into my work.

What clients say

"Working with Bhuvana has been an absolute pleasure, particularly in her capacity as a practitioner of both Somatic Experiencing and BCST. What stands out most in my experience is her ability to create a non-judgmental space that allows one to relax into the present moment and truly drop into their body. Bhuvana embodies an ocean of love and support, and her presence is deeply healing. Her tuning into her own body and living these principles in her own life is palpable and inspiring. She offers a safe and nurturing environment that fosters growth, relaxation, and healing."

"I’ve worked with Bhuvana for Cranio Sacral Therapy and other body-based therapy, and have been deeply moved by her incredibly calming presence. Even simply visiting her beautiful studio and sitting with her in conversation has, at times, brought about a gentle release of emotions I hadn’t realized I was holding. I’m truly grateful for her kindness, the sense of safety she creates, and the healing nature of her work."

"Meeting Bhuvana ma’am was a turning point in my life. At my lowest, she guided me to heal, mature emotionally, and break patterns that led me to a healthy marriage today. Her compassion, intuition, and precision made every session deeply impactful. As a practitioner who has met many therapists worldwide, I can truly say Bhuvana is the best, her presence in my life feels like God’s grace."

Frequently Asked Questions

What approaches do you work with?

I work primarily with Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST), Somatic Experiencing, and body-based work, integrating breathwork, Family Constellations, acupressure, and nervous system regulation practices.

What languages do you offer sessions in?

I offer sessions in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada. I also understand Malayalam and Telugu.

What type of people may not be the right fit for you?

I may not be the right fit if you are primarily seeking support for neurodivergence or psychosis, or if you are looking only for conventional talk therapy without body-based work.

Do you have experience working with clients outside India? Which countries?

Yes. I have worked with clients across countries, including the USA.

Are your sessions more structured or exploratory?

My sessions are exploratory and body-led. Rather than following a rigid structure, we slow down and let your nervous system guide the pace and direction of the work.

Will I get exercises or reflection work between sessions?

I may suggest simple grounding, breath, or body-awareness practices to support nervous system regulation between sessions, but there is no mandatory homework.

What if I disagree with you?

I genuinely welcome disagreement in our work together. If something I say doesn't sit right with you, I encourage you to share it openly. Therapy is a collaborative space, and your voice matters deeply here. Often, moments of disagreement lead to powerful insights, about patterns, boundaries, needs, or past experiences. Exploring these moments together can become an important part of your therapeutic growth and help us build a more honest, trusting relationship.

What if it doesn't feel like it's working after a few sessions?

Let's talk about it openly. Therapy is a collaborative process, and it's important that you feel safe sharing if something doesn't feel right. Sometimes, naming what isn't working can lead to meaningful shifts in the work itself. You are always free to pause, take a break, or explore a different therapist if that feels better for you. We can have that conversation together first, or you can also reach out to the Mindbun team for support in finding a better fit. Your comfort and growth matter more than pushing through something silently.
