Navneeth Ramachandran

Psychotherapist

  • Referred by a therapist

Hi, I'm Navneeth! I came to therapy the way many people do, by needing it first. After years of working in media and television in Chennai, I found myself at a point where I did not know what was for me. Therapy helped me find that. And once I walked through that door, I knew I wanted to be on the other side of it. One thing that has stayed with me from that experience is the question of who gets access to care and on what terms. I think about equity, not just equality, and that shapes how I approach this work and how I show up in a session.

Since completing my training I have worked both in private practice and with organisations, with young adults, students and corporate professionals. That work, specifically with young people and within a women's centre, has given me a depth of experience with trauma, systemic disadvantage, and the particular kind of resilience that grows in difficult circumstances that private practice alone would not have. It has also kept me honest about what therapy can and cannot do, and for whom.

I work between what I think of as discomfort and distress. I am someone who notices things before I can fully name them, something in the room, something in my own body, and I have learned to trust that and bring it in. I use a lot of imagery and metaphor in my work because I find that is often where something difficult becomes possible to hold. Grief, for example, is like standing on a beach where the wave might seem familiar but it never quite is. I hold the thread of why someone came from the very first session all the way through, always knowing where that original end of the string is, even as the work grows and changes around it.

1250+ hours of work in therapy

I have been continuously investing in practical case-based training, client work, and my own personal therapy.

We show therapy sessions so you can better understand a therapist's real-world experience.

Two therapists may both have five years in practice, yet one might have completed 500 sessions while another has completed 3,000. This depends on whether they practice part-time or full-time and how consistently they see clients. Session counts make that difference visible.

Just as you would not trust a surgeon who has only read about the human body but never operated, therapy cannot be mastered through textbooks alone. While many master's programs in India are heavily theory-driven, practical training develops the real skill of therapy - learning how to ask the right question, when to hold silence, when to challenge, and how to respond in complex emotional moments.

Therapists are human, and they carry their own histories. When a client's experiences resemble their own, old patterns can get activated.

For example, if a therapist grew up with a highly critical parent and a client shares a similar experience, that old pattern can get activated. They may unconsciously over-identify, rescue, or react instead of staying objective. Personal therapy helps therapists recognise their own triggers and patterns so they can respond thoughtfully and continue to hold a non-judgemental space. Nobody is born non judgemental, it takes a lot of personal work to get there.

  • 2+ years (and ongoing) advanced training in Transactional Analysis from International Transactional Analysis Association
  • 1+ Post Graduate Diploma in Integrated Counselling (with focus on CBT and TA modalities) from Nibbana Institute, accredited by Madras School of Social Work

Navneeth built his foundation through a postgraduate diploma in counselling with a focus on CBT and TA, then went deeper through advanced training with the ITAA, the gold standard body for TA psychotherapy worldwide. That progression from structured academic grounding to elite specialist training is not common.

I've been privileged to work with clients ranging from young adults navigating identity and relationships, to professionals facing burnout and workplace stress, to individuals processing grief, trauma, and life transitions.

You are in the right place if you are not primarily seeking support for neurodivergence, bipolar, or psychosis.

Approaches I Use

  • Transactional Analysis (TA)
  • Relational Therapy
  • Gestalt Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

Most of what keeps people stuck lives in patterns formed long before they had words for them. Navneeth works across thought, feeling, and relationship, using whichever combination opens things up most usefully for each person, through words, imagery, or structure, as per client needs.

What sessions with me feel like

If nothing is coming up, we find a way in. Sometimes that is a word, sometimes it is something at the body level, sometimes it is simply sitting with what is present until something moves. I am not in a hurry to fill the silence and I am not in a hurry to get somewhere. I am more interested in completing the circle than in covering ground.

I pay close attention to what is happening in me as much as what is happening in you. If I notice something, a friction, a shift, something that lands differently than expected, I will name it and check with you. Metaphor and imagery come naturally to me in sessions. If something is hard to get to directly, I will often come at it sideways through an image or a story, and invite you to do the same. That slight shift in angle can open up things that a direct question sometimes cannot.

I hold a lot of space for what is heavy. Grief, loss, sadness, the things people have been carrying quietly for a long time. I do not move past those moments quickly and I do not try to resolve them before they are ready to be resolved. I stay with whatever is present, however large it is, for as long as it needs to be there. I have found that being genuinely willing to sit inside difficult things, without flinching, without rushing toward something lighter, is often what allows something to finally shift. My style balances nurture with structure, and by structure I mean being direct and clear, not conditional or managed. I challenge through the relationship itself, not through confrontation. Homework when I give it is always reflection based and always small.

Outside therapy

I find joy in simple but grounding practices, cooking for loved ones, spending time with my partner, and sharing moments with close friends. I also lean on Vipassana meditation to stay anchored and bring perspective, which keeps me balanced both personally and professionally.

What clients say

"Therapy with Mr. Navneeth helped me heal after a breakup while building deep self-awareness. I learned about projection, emotional boundaries, and the mind-body connection. I discovered how my relationship patterns affected my work life too. He encouraged healthy expression of grief and anger, helping me grow. Though I'd have gotten here eventually, therapy fast-tracked my journey and gave me confidence I won't repeat past relationship mistakes."

Male, 35, Chennai, Media Professional

"I still remember the moments where I was completely overwhelmed and was unable to explain what happened inside me. You have made me sit with those feelings without any fear. I would have found it very difficult if I didn't get this safe space, while I was experiencing a lot of emotional lows and highs in my life. I also remember the times when I was unable to say the right words. You understood me and were very gentle in holding that space for me. And now because of this journey I can see how I have changed and been courageous enough in dealing situations. Thank you Navneeth."

Female, 47, Chennai, Entrepreneur

I've been referred to Mindbun by therapist Swati Ramgopal.

Therapists know what good therapy feels like. That's why this referral is stronger, and why you can trust it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What approaches do you work with?

I work primarily with Transactional Analysis and relational therapy, while integrating elements of CBT and Gestalt therapy. This allows us to explore deeper patterns while also working with present thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

What languages do you offer sessions in?

I offer sessions in Tamil, Malayalam, English, and Hindi. I also understand Kannada.

What type of people may not be the right fit for you?

I may not be the right fit if you are primarily seeking support for neurodivergence, bipolar disorder, or psychosis, as these concerns often require more specialised or multidisciplinary care.

Are your sessions more structured or exploratory?

My sessions balance both. They are largely exploratory and process-oriented, while still holding a clear direction so the work feels meaningful and contained.

Will I get exercises or reflection work between sessions?

Sometimes. If helpful, I may suggest small, reflection-based practices between sessions.

What if I disagree with you?

I genuinely welcome disagreement in our work together. If something I say doesn't sit right with you, I encourage you to share it openly. Therapy is a collaborative space, and your voice matters deeply here. Often, moments of disagreement lead to powerful insights, about patterns, boundaries, needs, or past experiences. Exploring these moments together can become an important part of your therapeutic growth and help us build a more honest, trusting relationship.

What if it doesn't feel like it's working after a few sessions?

Let's talk about it openly. Therapy is a collaborative process, and it's important that you feel safe sharing if something doesn't feel right. Sometimes, naming what isn't working can lead to meaningful shifts in the work itself. You are always free to pause, take a break, or explore a different therapist if that feels better for you. We can have that conversation together first, or you can also reach out to the Mindbun team for support in finding a better fit. Your comfort and growth matter more than pushing through something silently.
