Roohi Mittal
Clinical Psychologist & Psychotherapist
- Referred by a therapist
- RCI-licensed
Hi, I'm Roohi. I've been working as a clinical psychologist for several years now, across hospital settings and private practice, and the thing that still stays with me most is this: I don't think of therapy as something I do to a client. I think of it as something we move through together.
That shift didn't come from training alone. It came from my own therapy, where I spent a long time learning to stop intellectualising and actually feel things. That work changed how I show up in the room. I stopped looking at the person in front of me as a set of concerns to address and started trying to meet all the parts of them, including the ones that don't have words yet.
My training is clinical and rigorous. I've worked with complexity, acute distress, long-term patterns, and everything in between. But what I bring into every session alongside that is genuine curiosity about you as a person, and a real commitment to making this feel like a relationship, not a process.
I think of the people I work with as co-travelers. Not as cases, not as clients in the transactional sense. We're moving through something together and I'm changed by it too.
11500+ hours of work in therapy
I didn't stop learning after my masters, I have been continuously investing in practical case-based training, client work, and my own personal therapy.
We show therapy sessions so you can better understand a therapist's real-world experience.
Two therapists may both have five years in practice, yet one might have completed 500 sessions while another has completed 3,000. This depends on whether they practice part-time or full-time and how consistently they see clients. Session counts make that difference visible.
Just as you would not trust a surgeon who has only read about the human body but never operated, therapy cannot be mastered through textbooks alone. While many master's programs in India are heavily theory-driven, practical training develops the real skill of therapy - learning how to ask the right question, when to hold silence, when to challenge, and how to respond in complex emotional moments.
Therapists are human, and they carry their own histories. When a client's experiences resemble their own, old patterns can get activated.
For example, if a therapist grew up with a highly critical parent and a client shares a similar experience, that old pattern can get activated. They may unconsciously over-identify, rescue, or react instead of staying objective. Personal therapy helps therapists recognise their own triggers and patterns so they can respond thoughtfully and continue to hold a non-judgemental space. Nobody is born non judgemental, it takes a lot of personal work to get there.

✨ Roohi completed her MPhil in Clinical Psychology with extended rotations across hospitals in Delhi, giving her early exposure to some of the most complex cases in public mental health. She then went deep into Emotionally Focused Therapy, completing Level 1 and continuing into Level 2 training at the EFT Institute of India. That kind of sustained specialist investment in continuous training is uncommon.
I work with individuals across all age groups, from young adults to older clients. I welcome a wide range of concerns into the room and work with whatever you're carrying, whether it's something you can name clearly or something that's harder to put into words. For conditions that are primarily clinical in nature, like OCD, bipolar, or dissociative disorders, I can work with you if psychiatric support is already in place.
You are in the right place if you are not primarily seeking support for psychosis or conditions that require immediate psychiatric or medical intervention.

Approaches I Use
- Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Relational Therapy
- Trauma Informed Therapy
Most of us have learned to think our way through difficult feelings rather than actually feel them. It's faster, it's safer, and it mostly works until it doesn't. Roohi's work helps you slow down inside those feelings instead of moving past them, building a connection between what your mind understands and what your body is actually holding.
What sessions with me feel like
The first few sessions are about slowing down, getting to know each other, and making sure you feel comfortable with me before we go anywhere difficult. I'll ask how you're feeling in this moment talking about all of this, not just what brought you here.
One thing I bring in early is body-based work. We'll do a small grounding ritual together, and I'll introduce the idea of your window of tolerance, basically what your nervous system can hold before it tips into overwhelm. Even if you come back and tell me you felt nothing, that's useful. It tells us where we're starting from and we grow from there gently.
In sessions I listen more than I speak. When I do step in, I try to name what I'm observing rather than direct you. If something seems to be holding you back, I'll say that gently.
Sessions have continuity. I don't treat each one as a fresh start. I'll hold threads from previous weeks and bring them back when the moment is right. Before we end, I'll usually offer something small to carry with you, not as homework, just as something to stay with.
As we build trust over time, there's more ease, more directness. I also genuinely want to know if something isn't working. It's much easier to course correct early than to sit with something that isn't fitting quietly.

Outside therapy
I start every morning with an hour to myself, journaling, breathing, small movements, usually sitting on the floor because it feels the most grounding. Once a week I go to a cafe at night and just write, no agenda, whatever comes. I'm part of a book club that meets every Sunday and a reading group for therapists I started seven months ago. These aren't just hobbies, they're how I stay connected to myself so I can stay connected to the people I work with.

"Working with Roohi has helped me understand parts of myself that I had struggled with for years. Her emotion-focused approach made it possible for me to slow down and actually feel what was happening inside me instead of constantly trying to analyse or avoid it. Through our sessions, I began to recognise deeper emotional patterns in how I relate to myself and the people in my life, especially in moments of conflict or vulnerability. What has been most meaningful is the space she creates. Roohi shows up with genuine presence, patience, and care. Feeling that kind of safety gradually helped me feel safer with my own emotions outside of therapy as well. Over time, I've noticed that I respond to myself with more compassion and navigate relationships with greater clarity and calm."

Frequently Asked Questions
What approaches do you work with?
I primarily work with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), while integrating relational and trauma-informed approaches. This allows us to explore emotional patterns, understand how past experiences shape present relationships, and build deeper emotional awareness and connection.
What languages do you offer sessions in?
I offer sessions in English and Hindi.
What type of people may not be the right fit for you?
I may not be the right fit if you are primarily seeking support for psychosis or conditions that require immediate psychiatric or medical intervention.
Are you a RCI-licensed psychologist?
Yes. I am registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). My registration number is A85616, and you can verify it here.
Are your sessions more structured or exploratory?
My sessions balance both structure and exploration. At times we may focus on reflective emotional exploration, while at other times I bring in more structure and clarity to help you stabilize, understand patterns, and move forward.
Will I get exercises or reflection work between sessions?
Sometimes. I may suggest gentle reflections or awareness practices to notice between sessions, but there is no fixed homework.
What if I disagree with you?
I genuinely welcome disagreement in our work together. If something I say doesn't sit right with you, I encourage you to share it openly. Therapy is a collaborative space, and your voice matters deeply here. Often, moments of disagreement lead to powerful insights, about patterns, boundaries, needs, or past experiences. Exploring these moments together can become an important part of your therapeutic growth and help us build a more honest, trusting relationship.
What if it doesn't feel like it's working after a few sessions?
Let's talk about it openly. Therapy is a collaborative process, and it's important that you feel safe sharing if something doesn't feel right. Sometimes, naming what isn't working can lead to meaningful shifts in the work itself. You are always free to pause, take a break, or explore a different therapist if that feels better for you. We can have that conversation together first, or you can also reach out to the Mindbun team for support in finding a better fit. Your comfort and growth matter more than pushing through something silently.
